Novelty contacts
Novelty contacts, also known as Halloween contacts or special effect contacts, are contact lenses that offer you the ability to add a “crazy” design or color to your eyes. They are appropriate for Halloween parties, costume parties or theatrical plays (that is why they are also known as theatrical contact lenses) and they can be used by anyone as they normally do not correct vision.
“Crazy contacts” come in various designs and colors and allow you to display various effects. There are some that change the color of your eyes, the color of the white part of your eyes, or just have a weird design instead of a round pupil. All of them have a clear center part allowing your vision to be accurate and not blurred or distorted by the design.
Most of these crazy contacts are soft contact lenses, and they normally come as one-day or one-week disposable contacts. If you would like to use them for a longer amount of time, you can either purchase more and replace them daily or find a lens manufacturer that makes novelty contacts for extended use. Some of the popular special effect contact lenses are having a completely white eye (the lens changes the color of your pupil to white) or having red, bloody looking eyes.

Since most of these novelty contacts are used for theme parties and Halloween, you can find lots of deals for special effect contacts in October. Most contact lens retailers carry special effect contacts as well. Online retailers that offer Halloween costumes might also feature special effect contact lenses. Although these are non-prescription lenses, you would still need to make sure you have consulted an optometrist about the appropriate size of the contact lens that would fit your eyes properly, and you would also want discuss the risks of wearing contacts from unauthorized sources. Even if they seem like a great bargain, never purchase novelty contacts from any random costume retailer if they are not manufactured by a major lens manufactured that is also FDA approved.
